Ruth Evalyn McCampbell Eskew, 81 of Clinton, OK passed away on September 8, 2014. Ruth was born in Erick, OK on February 21, 1933 to Ruth Louise Toon McCampbell and Harry R. McCampbell.
Ruth was an educator in Ponca City and Clinton for many years. As a senior English Teacher, she influenced many youth, preparing them for college. Ruth received the Clinton Public School Teacher of the Year and was an officer in the Clinton Education Association serving as Oklahoma Education Association (OEA) delegate to conventions.
She was a volunteer Pink Lady for Integris Clinton for many years, serving as President and member of the gift shop committee. She was also a member of PEO, United Methodist Women, and on the First United Methodist Church Finance Board. Ruth was very active in Clinton with Bridge Clubs, Garden Club, Investment Club, Great Plains Library System Board and Clinton Play House. She held leadership positions in many of these organizations. She loved to travel, watching the Sooners and Thunder play. Ruth was passionate about the theatre both performing early in her life and supporting through volunteer work later. She attended many sporting events watching students and grandchildren play basketball, football, baseball and swim meets. Her most important role was sister, mother, neena and friend.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, William Van Eskew, and her parents.
She is survived by her children, Julia Ann Eskew Black and daughter Meredith Lorraine Black and Jan Ruth Eskew Powell and son William Ellis Powell. She is also survived by her brother, James McCampbell and his wife Barbara their daughter Sheri Vera her husband John and their children Jennifer and James and other family members and close friends.
A memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Clinton, OK. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Eskew Scholarship Fund at ICB Bank in Clinton, OK.
