1930 – 2025
Dr. Samuel "Sam" Winston Davis, age 94, of Edmond, OK, passed away at home peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025, after a brief illness. Sam was a devoted husband to his wife, Carol, of 52 years. Sam was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He was born December 7, 1930, in Quinton, OK, to Mitchell and Velma Davis. Doc Sam served as an Army Ranger demolition specialist in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954. Upon his return home he entered the College of Dentistry at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, graduating in 1959. Sam worked as a dentist in the Oklahoma City area for 58 years, finally retiring in 2017. Throughout his career, he served in numerous volunteer positions in the dental community as well at his local house of worship, All Souls Episcopal Church.
Horticulture was a passionate hobby of his evidence by the extensive landscaping at his 5-acre home in the Deer Creek area, where he and his wife lived for 43 years. In order to perfect his skills, Sam obtained his Associate of Horticulture degree from OSU Tech in OKC while still maintaining his dental practice. Sam was also an avid woodworker making beautiful gifts for loved ones and friends. His walking sticks, cutting boards, and bottle stoppers are treasured gifts kept by his family.
He is predeceased by his parents, a sister, and two brothers. Besides his wife, Sam leaves to cherish his memory his 4 children, Sam was the father of 3 and adoptive father to 1. Samuel Davis (Tina) of Enid, OK, Amelia Davis of Edmond, OK, Kathryn Nay (Terry) of Green Valley, AZ, and Rick Davis (Lila) of Little Rock, AR. He was known as Grandpa Sam to 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made in Doc Sam's honor to the charity of your choice.
