Sara Eileen Wright, known affectionately as Sally, passed away on August 21, 2025, at the age of 85 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Born on August 20, 1940, at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas, she was a daughter to the late Regina Lauer Fann and James Delton Fann. Sally was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her devoted husband, Robert (Bob) Wright; brothers Laurence Fann, Ronald Fann, and James D. Fann, Jr.; sister Karen Gray; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sally graduated from Bellaire High School and furthered her education at the University of Texas, where she earned a degree in medical technology. She later achieved a doctorate in soil microbiology from Texas A&M University. Her career was marked by significant contributions around the world, including serving in the Peace Corps in Brazil for two years, working as a medical technician during the Apollo space program at NASA, and dedicating 19 years to the Department of Agriculture. She and Bob traveled the globe sharing scientific discoveries to help improve soil quality for agricultural production.
A scientifically gifted and headstrong individual, Sally was known for her problem-solving skills and her fearless, brave disposition. She was completely devoted to her husband and loved many pets over the years. Sally had a passion for travel (especially Brazil and Australia), gardening, home renovation, sewing, boating, walking, feeding birds, and fixing antique clocks.
Sally attended Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. Her life will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 27, at 3 pm at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, Oklahoma.
