In Loving Memory of Sharon Ann Barr Gilkerson

Sharon Ann Barr Gilkerson went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Sharon was born on September 30, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas to Jean and Aleen Barr. She graduated from Alamo Heights High School and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

Sharon was a source of love, friendship, and joy to all that knew her, she was strongest and most amazing human I’ve ever known.

Sharon never met a stranger, and loving people was her greatest gift! She went to be with Jesus just two months shy of her 80th Birthday!

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Jean and Aleen Barr, and her husband Skip Gilkerson. She is survived by her daughter, Erin Kirkland and her husband Steven, her grandchildren Camryn and Morgan Kirkland and her sister Donna Fort.

To her granddaughters she was their “Gigi”. They will forever cherish their time with her and all of their memories at “Camp Gigi”, all the endless dress up parties and laugher they shared, how she always had all of their favorite things when they came to visit and how no matter where they went, she always brightened every room.

While she loved her daughter, Erin, deeply there was no greater pride and joy for her than her two granddaughters, Camryn and Morgan.

In her later years, she lost her memory, but she never lost her ability to love people and make everyone around her feel so special. Her smile could light up a room, and her gentle spirit made everyone she met feel welcomed, valued, and loved.

She also loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children—Jennifer, Jeff, Matt, Amy, and Rob. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she treasured the time and memories they shared.

Her life was a beautiful example of faith, kindness, generosity, and unconditional love. She taught us how to care for others, how to be strong through life’s hardships, and how to trust God in every season.

While our hearts are broken, we find peace knowing she is whole again, reunited with the love of her life Skip “Coach” (as we called him), her precious parents, her sister-in-law Judes and all of the pets she had over the years and she is forever in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Thank you for loving each and every person who you knew so completely. Your strength, your faith, your laughter, and your endless grace will be with us always.

Until we meet again, we will carry your love in our hearts every single day.
