Sherry Rae Alexander was born on January 20, 1968 in Memphis, Texas - the first of the three “Alexander girls” born to Alan and Janice Alexander.
Sherry lived her first 18 years in her hometown of Memphis along with her dearly loved sisters, Angie Monroe and Donna Houchins. After graduating as Valedictorian from Memphis High School, she enrolled at TCU in Fort Worth, earning a Bachelors Degree with honors in English.
While in Fort Worth, Sherry met the love of her life, Jeff Bingham, and they married almost a year later. Sherry and Jeff were blessed with three wonderful children, Hannah Vaughn Bingham Brunner, and twins Alexander Dean Bingham and Rebecca Lee Bingham Olsson.
Hannah (Hann) and husband Jason Brunner reside in Vermont, Alexander (Alec) resides in Texas, and Rebecca (Becca) and husband James Olsson reside in Edmond. Becca and James blessed Sherry and Jeff with a beloved granddaughter, Hazel, in 2023. Hazel loves Sherry, who she adoringly knows as “Sweetie” and her Grandad very much.
Sherry and Jeff moved to Edmond shortly after the twins turned one, and were blessed to raise their family in a loving environment. After about a decade of full-time motherhood at home, Sherry began serving at Oklahoma Christian University, first as a coordinator for their ten year accreditation process, and later as a fund raising researcher and grant writer. After completing her MA in English from UCO a few years later, Sherry began serving OC’s Department of Language and Literature as an Adjunct Instructor in Freshman Composition and served other universities as an remote adjunct instructor of English from time to time.
Perhaps the most passionate work of Sherry’s life outside her family was being able to help participate with several dozen beloved friends in planting the Heritage Church of Christ in north Edmond in 2018. She loved her opportunities assisting with administrative and organizational tasks, in the Guest/Welcoming Ministry, teaching young children and babies, and working in the Women’s ministry. Sherry was a wonderful confidant and blessing to Jeff and the church the past few years as he began serving as one of the Shepherds for Heritage.
Sherry was an avid reader, loved to write, and loved puzzles, knitting, and playing competitive board games with family, but gardening was her natural gift and beloved pastime, especially growing vegetables, fruit trees, and native wildflower and pollinator garden beds.
Sherry was preceded in death by her mother Janice, and her grandparents, particularly her beloved grandmothers, “Mama Floyd” and “Grandmommy Alexander”.
Sherry is survived by her husband Jeff, her three beloved children, two sons in law, and dear granddaughter Hazel, and by her father Alan, sisters Angie and Donna, her mother in law Linda Bingham Parrish, and sisters in law and their husbands Julie and Gary Titlow, Jenny and Mike Connally, and brothers in law Tony Monroe and Bryan Houchins, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews (Brittany, Baylee, Addy, Eric, Sara, Erin, Cayden, Cassidy, Emma, Jack, and Abby and their spouses) and several great nieces and nephews, as well as a wide number of cousins, aunts, and uncles with whom she remained close, many of which are here with us today.
Funeral services to honor Sherry’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2026 at the Heritage Church of Christ, Edmond, Oklahoma.
Sherry will be laid to rest at a graveside service to be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 27, 2026 at the Fairview Cemetery, Memphis, Texas.
