Steven Arthur Schwendeman
1952-2016
Steven Arthur Schwendeman, M.D. passed away on February 19. He was born on July 15, 1952 to Norman and Florence Schwendeman in St. Paul, MN. Steve graduated from Highland High School, St. Paul, MN. Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, and the University of Minnesota Medical School.
Steve married Rebecca Solum in 1978 and they have one son, Jim Schwendeman.
Steve enjoyed Family Practice in Moorhead, MN and Fairbanks, AK. He completed a Residency in Aerospace Medicine in Dayton, OH and was board certified in Aerospace and Occupational Medicine. Steve worked for some time at Kennedy Space Center, Florida and enjoyed 6 trips to The Gambia, Africa, as support for the space shuttle's alternate landing site. He also participated in several medical mission trips to Guyana, South America. Since June of 1995 Steve had worked for the Federal Aviation Administration Civil Aerospace Medical Institute in Oklahoma City.
Steve is survived by his wife Becky of 37 years, son Jim Schwendeman and his wife Heather Yocum, and grandson, Jack Schwendeman. He is also survived by his mother, Florence Schwendeman of Stillwater, MN, brother, Robert Schwendeman of Mexico City, Mexico, and sisters Bonnie Maffitt and husband Neil of Rochester, MN, Jeanne Quarstad of New Brighton, MN, and Jill Schwendeman and husband Tiger Heise of Stillwater, MN. Steve also had several cousins, nieces and nephews and was a beloved friend to many. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Schwendeman. Steve was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Edmond.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church.
