Edmond

Terry Dean Mitchell, 73, of Edmond, OK passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, surrounded by his family who love and miss him dearly.

Born on April 11, 1952, in Duncan, OK to Betty Lou Caton (22) and the late Wayne Terrial Mitchell (24), who tragically passed away in a car accident 6 months prior to his birth. Terry would go on to spend much of his early childhood in Velma, OK, where he lived with his mom and two brothers, before moving in with his beloved maternal grandparents at age 10. He would end up attending Luther High School where he met his lifelong best friend, Tom McGee.

Upon graduating in 1970, Terry entered the workforce in various roles until finding his lifelong passion in the entertainment industry where he successfully performed as Master Hypnotist Terrial Mitchell. He traveled all throughout the midwest/southern United States where he was steadily booked through Graham & Associates, performing at Clubs/Corporations/Conventions/Universities/High Schools/private parties, as well as opening for acts such as Barbara Mandrell, Charly McClain, and Black Oak Arkansas. During this same time, Terry partnered with a couple of his friends to open Spurs in Oklahoma City where he would meet another lifelong friend, Randy Jackson. Terry also began working at Tinker Air Force Base in the mid 1980’s until he was injured on the job in 1987 and forced to medically retire. While this presented many challenges he endured for the remainder of his life, it allowed him to be a constant presence in his youngest children’s lives as they grew up. During this time he became involved in church ministry and even traveled to Mexico to help build a church for the community.

Terry was an excellent cook and enjoyed writing songs, both Christian and Country, with some of his work being published and recorded. He was also well known for having a quick-witted sense of humor and larger than life personality.

One of Terry’s most important Hypnosis shows took place in 1976 at Charlie’s Palace in Shawnee, OK where he would first meet the love of his life, Darla Joyce Mauldin. Both described it as love at first sight and would go on to spend the next 50 years building on that moment. Married on October 9, 1983, in Shawnee, OK, they welcomed son Joseph Barrett on September 7, 1984, followed by daughter Terri Lyn on September 9, 1986. Terry also had a son from a previous marriage, Wayne Terrial Mitchell, born on October 1, 1971. Above all else, Terry loved his family and lived his life for them.

Terry is survived by his devoted wife Darla; son Joseph & daughter-in-law Megan and grandchildren Jackson Wayne, Christian Lee, Greyson Joseph, and Madison Eliese; daughter Terri & son-in-law Tyler South and grandchildren Olivia Grace, Wyatt Dean, a Baby Boy due in June 2026, and step granddaughter Audrey; grandchildren Gabrielle Davis and Malachi Davis; his brothers Gary Hinkle & wife Kathryn and David Hinkle & wife Sue; his mother-in-law Joyce Mauldin; along with several relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Conrad & Mattie Caton and Wyatt & Bonnie Mitchell; his father Wayne Mitchell and mother Betty Hinkle; his father-in-law Joe Mauldin; as well as his son, Wayne.

While the family mourns his loss, they find comfort in knowing he is finally out of pain and is resting peacefully with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A celebration of Terry’s life will be held on what would have been his 74th birthday on April 11, 2026.
