Tommy Jean Atchison

February 17, 1934 — September 17, 2025

Edmond

Tommy Jean Atchison passed away peacefully September 17, 2025, in her Edmond home surrounded by her loving family. Tommy was born in Shawnee on Feb. 17, 1934.

Tommy married Arthur L. Atchison in 1957, and they shared 45 wonderful years together until his death in 2002.

She is survived by her children, Chris Callaway and his wife Glenda of Moore; Terry Callaway and his wife Candace of Mustang; Velia Deal of Edmond; Ernest Atchison of Yukon; and her treasured niece Karon Tipps Odle of Taylorsville, Ky.

Also, her grandchildren Shannon Sinclair and husband Barney Sinclair and their children Jack, Cally Anne, and Charley June of Austin, Texas; Brock Callaway and his wife Monica and their children Lyla, Addison and Carson of Moore; Jeff Callaway and his wife Kari of Everett, Wash.; Steven Callaway of Joplin, Mo.; Tommy Callaway and his wife Catie and their son Micah of Santa Clarita, Calif.; Andrea Guilliams and her husband Dakota of Jones; Cora Andrade and her husband Hunter of Edmond.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Demurl Tipps Shook of Pawhuska, her mother Velia Maxwell of Oklahoma City, and her father and stepmother Tommie G. and Fran Maxwell of Hominy, and Son-in-law, Mark Deal of Edmond.

The essence of Tommy’s character was shaped as a child by her father’s career working in the oil fields of New Mexico, west Texas and Louisiana. They settled in Oklahoma City when Tommy was a teenager. Following the oil field was a life of goodbyes and new starts for Tommy and she was up for the challenge. Tommy, ever the optimist, carved out a new life in each town with a glass-half-full attitude, looking forward to new friends, new schools and always a new church.

Tommy, a devoted wife and mother, based her life on an abiding love of Christ. Tommy enjoyed travel and volunteer work. She was a docent at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. She was active in her children’s schools and activities, her church, community and civic organizations and had a lifelong devotion to the arts. An active artist early on, she participated in many art organizations. Her career outside of the home was varied with the most challenging opportunities but her greatest rewards came from being a wife, mother and home maker.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Dr. Chris Martin and Good Shepherd Hospice for caring for our mother.
