Treva Joan Renfro, age 96, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Joan was born in Maize, Kansas, to Jesse and Celestia McCain. After her mother’s passing in 1932, she was lovingly raised by her foster parents, Morris and Eva Jane McMurry. She attended high school in Douglass, Kansas, where she met her sweetheart, Charles Eugene Renfro, after he returned from the war. The two graduated in 1947 and were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1948. They shared 62 years of marriage until Charles’s passing.
After high school, Joan attended Emporia Teacher’s College, earning an Emergency Teaching Certificate. She taught for three years in a one-room schoolhouse at Rogers School between Douglass and Augusta. Later, she worked in customer service for over 20 years.
Joan and Charles made their home in Augusta and Mulvane, Kansas, before moving to Edmond, Oklahoma, in 2011 to be closer to family. She was a devoted 4-H Club leader for more than 20 years and an active member of the church. Joan participated in World Bible School and in several Campaigns for Christ and joyfully led many to the Lord—even in her later years. Her faith was strong and steady, a guiding light in her life and a legacy she leaves behind.
Joan enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and tending to her flowers. She loved playing games with family and friends and proudly held the title of Wii Bowling Champion. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her laughter, and her unwavering love for the Lord and her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles Eugene Renfro; her daughter, Eugenia Press; and her son, Scott Renfro.
She is survived by her children Dennis and wife Connie of Stratton, Nebraska; Morris and wife Lorrie of Guthrie, Oklahoma; and son-in-law Paul Press of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren: Matthew and wife Ginger of San Antonio, Texas; Ryan and wife Jessica of San Antonio, Texas; Heath and wife Tiffany of Charleston, Arkansas; Luke and wife Amy of Ogallala, Nebraska; Sandy McPhearson of Wichita, Kansas; Michelle and husband Keith of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Austin and wife Sandy of Stratton, Nebraska; and Hunter and wife Hannah of Frisco, Texas; along with 25 great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on December 5th at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to In Search of the Lord’s Way at https://www.searchtv.org/formmemorialhonor.html.
Joan’s life was a testament to faith, perseverance, and love. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
