Valerie Darlene Teh
1952-2014
Valerie Darlene Teh passed away on Friday, January 31, 2014 in Edmond, OK. She was born on October 22, 1952 in Berea, KY to James and Barbara Barrett. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is preceded in death by her father James Barrett Jr. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Dr. Thian Hor Teh; daughters Telena Teh Hawkins and Jelena Teh; son-in-law Houston H. Hawkins III; grandchildren Nova and Rhye Hawkins; her mother Barbara Barrett and her brother and sister-in-law Mike and Joyce Barrett. She received a BA degree from Berea College, MA and Rank 1 from Eastern Kentucky University. A very dedicated school teacher, she taught for over 36 years. She received the OKC Excellent Educator award in 2006 and was Teacher of the Year several times at Linwood Elementary. She was a reading specialist and second grade teacher that emphasized reading for learning. Each year her students read over 30,000 books. We will celebrate her life with a memorial service at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, OK 73003 on Friday, February 7th at 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers we ask that contributions be made to Linwood Elementary PTA, 3416 NW 17th, OKC, OK 73107 in honor of Valerie Darlene Teh.
