Velma Irene Hendricks
1909-2016
Velma Irene Herren Hendricks was born May 2, 1909 near Enid OK to Caric Hill & Daisy Lou Herren, & died August 18, 2016 at the age of 107 years. Velma was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Rev. Louis Monroe Hendricks; her parents; sisters, LaVerle Russell and Syble Nielsen, and brother Reaford Herren. At Oklahoma Baptist University she met Louis & they served 40 years in five pastorates in OK & CA.
Velma is survived by her 5 children, 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren. Velma is survived by daughter Sylvia Cheek (Paul) of Springfield MO; son Chaplain (LTC USA Ret) Louis D Hendricks of Belton TX; daughter Noveita Gorden (Melvin) of Pasadena CA; daughter Joan Clemons (Larry) of Edmond; and son Randy Hendricks (Kathy) of Edmond & many loving nieces and nephews. Viewing is Sunday, August 21 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond. Services will be 10:00 am, Monday, August 22, at First Baptist Church, Edmond. Burial will be at 3:00 pm at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee. The family wishes to thank her granddaughter/caregiver, Dana Sears LeTarte & Mercy Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
