Walter Scott Wells; born at Atoka Oklahoma, March 9 th , 1923 passed from this life at Oklahoma City, January 10 th , 2013.

Scott Wells or "Scotty" as he was known to his friends will be remembered as an educational leader, soldier and civic minded community leader. Born during the Great depression, he enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 years old, he became a highly decorated combat veteran of both WWII and Korea. He enlisted at the rank of private in 1940 and retired in 1983 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his military career he saw much of the world, and served with several of the most distinguished leaders of the military. He was always humbled and honored to be a member of the 45th infantry Division and was active in creating the 45 th Infantry Division Museum. He enjoyed taking part in activities that celebrated the division's impressive accomplishments. A graduate of Southeastern State University and the University of Oklahoma, he enjoyed a long career as a teacher and administrator in Atoka and Edmond, Oklahoma. His leadership, ability to relate to people and love of children has powerfully impacted the lives of many and will resonate through generations. He served on the Oklahoma State Textbook Commission and is a member of the Oklahoma Education Hall of Fame.

While a resident of Edmond, Scott was one of three committee members that organized the Edmond 4 th of July parade. Since 1967, he was a member and Deacon of the Edmond First Baptist Church.

Family members who cherish his memory are his wife Katie, his daughter Susan (Scott) Furrow and son Josh (Denise) Boyles. His son, John Wells (Amanda) and daughters Audrey and Olivia's lives were greatly enhanced by his love and mentorship. Half-sister Betty McNutt and children Julianne and Ralph Dandridge.

His generosity, his humility and his leadership have made our community, our state and our nation a better place. In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts in his honor are requested to Boys Ranch Town, 5100 East 33 rd Street, Edmond, Oklahoma, 73013. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Edmond, OK, with interment at Green Meadows Cemetery, Atoka, OK.

Services are under the Direction of Matthews Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Edmond, OK.
