Wanda "Kay" Taylor, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on February 21, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on March 6, 1947, in Duncan, Oklahoma, Kay lived a life marked by deep faith, abundant love, and a gift for making every place she touched feel like home.
Kay was first married to John McCutchen on June 6, 1965, and together they raised three daughters — Kacey, Angie, and Mandy — who would go on to be among the greatest joys of her life. On November 25, 1995, she married her soulmate and best friend, Kenneth D. Taylor. Together, Kay and Ken built a life full of purpose and beauty on their 10-acre property in Elgin, Oklahoma, where they planted over 100 seedling trees that now stand as a living testament to their love and labor. They were devoted members of Paradise Valley Baptist Church, where Ken served as a deacon, and their faith was the cornerstone of their life together. Kenneth preceded Kay in death in December of 2017, after 22 years of marriage.
Kay had a remarkable career with State Farm Insurance spanning from 1986 to 2010. She served as an Administrative Assistant in the Irving Claims Office and later as Agency Field Support Staff and Administrative Assistant for Becky Minson in the Agency Field Office in Lawton, Oklahoma — a role she carried out with the same warmth and dedication she brought to every area of her life.
Those who knew Kay knew she had a green thumb like few others — she could grow anything, and she took great pride in her gardens and flowers. She loved camping, sewing, reading, dancing, and shopping at Walmart. But above all, she cherished time with her family. Among her most treasured traditions were the annual two-week summer trips to Colorado with Ken, her brothers Doyle and Lynn, and their wives — trips that, for many years, included two grandchildren rotating the honor of joining them. The memories made on those mountain journeys, and around the home in Elgin, are ones her grandchildren will carry in their hearts for a lifetime.
Kay's love for Jesus was not something she kept quietly to herself — it was visible in the way she lived, the way she loved, and the way she treated everyone she met. It was, above all else, how she wanted to be remembered. Her legacy lives on in the family gatherings she cherished and cultivated, a tradition her daughters and grandchildren have proudly carried forward.
Kay is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Kacey and Mark Boothe, Angie and Gary McMurry, and Mandy and Dirk Ramsey; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother Lynn Etheridge and sister-in-law Kathy Etheridge; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth D. Taylor; her sister, Madelyn Carol Etheridge; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Charles White; her nephew, Rick White; her brother, Doyle Etheridge; and her sister-in-law, Judy Etheridge.
Kay Taylor was a woman who planted things — trees, flowers, faith, and memories — and leaves behind a world more beautiful for it. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Wanda's name to the Oklahoma Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association:
