William “Bill” Howell Sanford, Sr., was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life was defined by love, loyalty, and quiet strength. He passed away peacefully at his home on January 31, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Bill was born on January 9, 1938, in Lindsay, Oklahoma. He shared a deep and enduring marriage with his wife, Paula, whose love, care, and steady presence never left his side. Together, they built a life rooted in family and commitment, spending most of their married years in Edmond, where they raised their three sons. Bill was a constant, dependable presence — someone his family knew they could always count on.
He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Oklahoma City University and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1968. Bill spent his professional career in banking and commercial real estate, ultimately retiring as Senior Vice President from BancFirst in 2015. He approached his work with integrity and sound judgment, earning the trust and respect of colleagues and clients alike. While he took his responsibilities seriously, Bill was also known for his quick wit and perfectly timed humor, often lightening the mood with a thoughtful remark or dry smile.
Outside of work, Bill found joy in the simple pleasures of life — a round of golf, cheering on the Thunder and, most of all, time spent with his family. Some of his happiest moments were at the family’s lake house on Grand Lake of the Cherokees, where laughter, conversation, togetherness, and a round of spinner dominos filled the days.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Henrietta Frith, and his sister, Sharon Young. He is survived by his beloved wife, Paula; his sons, Chad, Todd (Angel), and Scott; and his grandchildren, Brett (Paige), Lauren, and Blake, each of whom carries forward his example of kindness, dedication, and love.
Bill will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous heart, and the way he made those around him feel supported and valued. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the many lives he touched. He now rests in peace, leaving behind a lifetime of love and memories that will be held close forever.
