Yassiel "Yassi" Leonardo Northcutt-McColley

Apr 23, 2005 — Sep 14, 2026

Edmond

Yassiel “Yassi” Leonardo Northcutt tragically passed away on September 14, 2026, at only 21 years old.

Yassi is survived by his parents, Larkin Noelle and Tyler Northcutt, along with family, friends, and the many people who knew and loved him. His absence leaves an immeasurable space in the lives of those closest to him, and he will be deeply missed.

Twenty-one years was nowhere near enough. Yet Yassi’s life held more than those years alone could ever tell.

Yassi was born in Nicaragua on April 23, 2005. At the age of six, he was adopted and brought to the United States, where he spent most of his childhood growing up in Austin, Texas. In the later years of his life, Yassi made his home in Edmond, Oklahoma, with his dad. His life crossed countries, cities, families, and communities, and along the way he found people who loved him, chose him, cared for him, and made sure he knew he belonged. And Yassi loved his people.

There was a depth to Yassi that was not always immediately visible, but it was almost always felt. He moved through the world with an unusual awareness of the people around him, and relationships with Yassi had a way of becoming meaningful quickly. He remembered the small things. He understood what people needed, sometimes before they knew how to ask for it, and offered that understanding without ever needing recognition for it. His capacity for compassion and empathy was remarkable, particularly for someone whose own life had asked so much of him so young. That sensitivity could sometimes make the world harder for Yassi to carry, but it was also part of what made his presence so powerful. There was an energy to him—a kind of unmistakable life in him—that people felt when he was around. He didn’t simply pass through people’s lives. He left an impression.

Yassi could be quiet and thoughtful, but he was also playful, funny, and curious. He had an infectious smile and an unforgettable laugh. He found joy in playing soccer, creating art, reading, being with his friends and family, and simply being around the people he loved. Connection mattered to Yassi. He wanted to belong, and perhaps without even realizing it, he had a way of giving others that same feeling.

At 21, Yassi was still growing into himself. He was learning who he was, finding greater confidence in his place in the world, and beginning to understand himself and others in new ways. Those closest to him could see that growth happening. There was a maturity emerging alongside the gentleness, humor, curiosity, and compassion that had always been there. His story was not finished. It was opening up.

There should have been more time. More soccer games and books. More art. More ridiculous laughter. More friendships and people to love. More mistakes to make and lessons to learn. More ordinary days that no one realizes are extraordinary until there aren’t any more of them.

What remains is the impact of the time Yassi was here. He loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. His presence mattered. He left something of himself with the people who knew him—in memories, stories, laughter, lessons, and in the countless small ways one life becomes part of another.

Yassiel was a true gift. His 21 years cannot be measured simply by how long they lasted, but by how genuinely he cared, how deeply he felt, how much he loved, and how many people will carry some part of him with them.

There will never have been enough time with Yassi. But there will always be a place in this world that is different because he was here.
