Zola Faye (Jones) SellsJune 25, 1915 – November 1, 2014

Zola Faye (Jones) Sells answered her creator's final call to eternal rest November 1, 2014, in Oklahoma City at the age of 99. She was born June 25, 1915, near May, Harper County, Oklahoma to Charles Almer and Ida May (Jackson) Jones.

She attended schools in Amarillo, Reno County (Kansas), May and Waynoka (Oklahoma) before graduating as valedictorian of May High School in 1933. That summer Faye married the brother of her best friend, Phoebe Sells.

After a day spent with family picking wild plums along the Beaver River, Faye and Israel Edward "Ed" Sells had plans to marry. The following day, July 10, 1933, they were married in Liberal, Kansas. The couple farmed and raised a family in the Luther Hill community six miles southwest of May and moved to Shattuck in 1976.

A devoted farm wife and mother, Faye loved life, learning, and sharing with others. Above all, she adored her grandchildren and they returned the sentiment, often accompanying her on her many travels. Faye's neighbors will remember her serving 50 years on the Ellis County Election Board and volunteering many years with the Pink Ladies of Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck. She enjoyed traveling, playing games, telling jokes and stories, and participating in bridge club, spelling bees, and domino tournaments. Faye was known for her skill at preparing wild game and fish with hot biscuits and wild plum jam. Biscuits and gravy were a family favorite. Faye submitted several family histories and photos for the Harper, Ellis and Woodward county history books.

Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Israel Edward Sells and son, Romulo Wayne Sells, as well as her parents, two infant brothers, and sisters Clarabelle Fesler, Lois Crouch, and Mabel Crooks.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou Bond and Marjorie Ruth (Noble) Young; and six grandchildren, Marilyn R (Terry) Dougherty, Dana Jones, Carlton (Diane) Daugherty, Stephen Wayne Daugherty, Jacqueline (David) Owen, and Gene Sells. Also surviving are six great grandchildren, Will Dougherty, Megan (Joe) Benton, Garrett (Whitney) Jones, Cooper Edward Daugherty, Emma Ruth Daugherty, Cody Owen and one great great grandson Reed Wendell Benton. Friends Tim (Lisa) Jones, Rita Sells, and Bob Daugherty along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday,  November 6th at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation Wednesday evening. Interment will be with her husband and son in Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City.
